      Benefits of A Doula

How a birthing person is treated during pregnancy and birth can have a long-lasting and profound impact on the rest of their family life. A 2017 Cochrane review of 26 research studies concluded that continuous labour support, specifically with a doula, improves birth outcomes.

These benefits include:​

  • 39% decrease in caesarean births

  • 15% increase in spontaneous vaginal births

  • 10% decrease in the use of analgesia pain relief

  • The average length of labour decreased by 41 minutes

  • 38% decrease in the risk for a baby having a low 5-minute Apgar score

  • 31% decrease in the risk of the birthing person being dissatisfied with the overall experience

  • Increase of initiating breastfeeding & breastfeeding at 6 weeks

  • Lower incidence of depressive symptomatology
